I live in Yellow Springs, Ohio, a place where the arts thrive, life is sweet, and people I know value things like small towns, funkiness, and doing your own thing. Coffee shops and busking. Nature hikes. Saying hello. Bicycling, running, belly dance, yoga, and sports. People you know, people you don’t, just being people. Music and busking. Good food. Good vibe. Generations intermingling. Things that surprise you.
Life is pretty good here.
I live with my wife, Pam Geisel, who is a graphic designer and fabric artist. Pam created the cover art and did the typography and layout for my books. That’s her painting of a UFO that appears in Fair Game, and that’s me standing in front of it outside of Village Artisans in Yellow Springs. But it’s her fabric work that is really exciting. You can see for yourself at PamGeiselArtQuilts.com.
I have among other things worked as a painter, auto parts maker, food service manager, technical editor, teacher, consultant, writer, and maintenance guy. And some other things that I’ve forgotten.
My work has appeared, among other places, in Best New Writing, Best of Ohio Short Stories, and Christmas Stories from Ohio, where my story sits alongside historical Ohio writers Paul Laurence Dunbar, Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes, and James Thurber. I was a finalist for the Eric Hoffer Award and editorial assistant for Flash Fiction Forward and New Sudden Fiction. You can find my Yellow Springs-inspired short story, recorded and performed by the late, great Mary Donahoe, in the WYSO archives.
